Grace Reformed Baptist Fellowship, Palmdale, CA – An Update by Richard Barcellos

When word got out that I was moving from KY back to CA someone asked: Why another Reformed Baptist church and why in Palmdale, CA? I’ll answer the question in reverse order.

Why CA? Well, you can take the kid out of CA but you can’t take CA out of the kid. Both my wife and I were born and raised in CA. Our parents and all but one of our seven siblings live here. Our five children were born and lived most of their lives here. Our roots and hearts are in CA; and the weather’s not bad either. It is good to be on the best coast again. There are great needs here.

Why Palmdale? Palmdale is located in the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County. The Antelope Valley is home to 475,000 people. It is projected to be 1,000,000 by 2020. We lived here from 1989-2006. There are several families here who know me and want to be a part of a new Reformed Baptist church.

Why another Reformed Baptist church? My first response to that would be that Reformed Baptist churches are Christian churches. Our Lord Jesus is in the business of establishing Christian churches. In fact, part of the mission of the church is to start churches. A few churches have already helped us in various ways to get this new work established. As far as I know, there are roughly 300,000 people between Palmdale and the next Reformed Baptist church. But why a Reformed Baptist church? That’s easy for me to answer. Because I am a Reformed Baptist of the 1689 Confession variety and there are not too many of those kinds of churches anywhere in the world. Sinners need to be saved and saints need to be taught.

Since arriving in June, we have had several Friday night meetings for those interested in a new Reformed Baptist church in this area. As of today, we have seven committed families, along with two singles. There are a few more families on the fringes. We are meeting on the Lord’s Day, October 16, for our first Sunday meeting for worship. Please pray for us!

  1. My prayer is that there would be many Reformed Baptist churches across America. Right now it seems that there are only one or two in each state except Californa.

  2. Annette, though there are comparitively more RB churches in CA, there is room for a few hundred more.
